Year 1
Welcome to our Year 1 page! We hope you enjoy looking at our fantastic learning journeys this year.
Autumn 1 - Lost at Sea
In our first topic, we learnt all about the ocean! We did some amazing writing and created some guess who games for our friends. We also spent time bug hunting for our longitudinal study. The children loved hunting for bugs and we have some very enthusiastic spider catchers!
Autumn 1 - Where are we?
After our amazing first topic, we have moved on to thinking about where we are in our local area. We have spent time studying human and physical geographical features and went out for a walk to see what we could find. We have continued to learn about the seasons and have been observing the changes happening to the trees in our year 1 area. We have also produced some lovely descriptive writing using 'I' as a personal pronoun.
Thank you so much to all the grown ups that made our 'Autumn Dress up Day' so amazing. The children looked fantastic and we really appreciate all of your donations. Here are a few of Year 1's brilliant costumes!
Autumn 2 - Do dinosaurs eat burgers or chips?
The children had a fantastic time learning all about dinosaurs.
We started the unit by children coming into school to find a mysterious egg and a very messy classroom! We discovered that dinosaurs had taken over and had a party in our classrooms. Since then, we have become historians and have been looking a clues to uncover our new learning.
We have also become scientists and learnt all about animals and their diets. We have spent time learning about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores and even made pizzas!
We have had some fantastic writing throughout this unit with some children creating their own dinosaurs to write about. It is safe to say that Y1 are dinosaur experts now!
Autumn 2 - Journey's End
December is here... and so are the elfs! The children have been very excited this week as we have been sent on a journey to find our elves! They left us a very interesting note...
We are making elf diaries each week to document all of their cheekiness whilst practising our capital letters for days of the week! We are also using our senses to write some sentences. We have tried hard to make sure we include our capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
Spring 1 - How can we make Goldilocks' pillow just right?
To start the new year, we went on a journey! Our hall transformed into a plane and we spent the day flying around the UK. We visited England and ate tea and biscuits, we visited Wales and learnt how to speak the language, we visited Northern Ireland and ate soda bread and finally we visited Scotland and ate shortbread whilst learning about the Loch Ness Monster! We made our own passports to document our journey.
We then decided to make gingerbread men! Miss Frankland's and Miss Scott-Conaty's ran away though... we are hoping we hear from them soon!
